Food Storage for May

In May we will be canning on the first Friday of the month, May 3rd at 7 p.m. at Sarah's house. Money is due to her by Tuesday, April 30th. You can give it to her at church or drop it off at her house directly. Here's what we'll be canning:

  • Black Beans: $4.90
    • Black beans are an excellent source of fiber and protein. Use them in your favorite soups, or in place of pinto beans. Cooked black beans can also be used to replace the oil in your chocolate baked goods (think brownies or chocolate cake). Just whirl them in the blender with a small bit of water to make a thin paste. Then replace the oil, with equal part black bean paste.
  • Potato Flakes: $3.70
    • Use potato flakes to make mashed potatoes or as a dough enhancer to make your breads light and fluffy.
  • Farina: $4.40
    • A ground wheat cereal, comparable to Cream of Wheat, farina makes an excellent hot breakfast.
